Debate between CTU and Stand for Children today

Stand for Children, the Bill Gates-funded astroturf group that came into Illinois last fall and dropped more than half-a-million dollars on legislative candidates, will debate CTU representatives at two forums this week.

The truth is, Stand for Children stands for standardized test-based teacher evaluation and corporate privatization, not children.

PURE has already submitted testimony on these issues. We support the Chicago Teachers’ Union’s plan that will:

*  improve teaching and learning,
*  limit standardized tests,
*  restore art, language, PE and library to students’ school day,
*  include a Student Bill of Rights, including the right to small class size and a teacher in place starting on the first day of school, and
*  strengthen LSCs, and provide for an elected school board and a superintendent with an education background.

Please come out to one of the two hearings this week and show your support for real school reform, not corporate privatization and more testing.

Wed. March 23, at the Urban League, 4510 S. Michigan, from 6:30-8 pm, and
Friday, April 1, at New Birth Christian Center, 1140 N. Lamon, 6:30-8 pm
